November is for Thanks | Day 10

Today I am thankful for silly morning goodbyes with these kiddos. In our house I get to be the one who makes breakfast and gets the day rolling while Taneesha Darling prepares for a full day of schooling and momming it up while I am at the church. I love these times, and I've been blessed to have them.
Now, don't get me wrong, most mornings tend to be chaotic with a bit of bickering and overall grumpiness. Don't just assume that because I'm a pastor we've figured out some parenting hack that makes life in our home perfect. We haven't. Not even close.
But, nevertheless, these moments are special. And soon, I won't have these moments to enjoy anymore. Soon, my children will be grown...they will leave the nest...and they will be flying on their own. (Dang...I'm getting all emotional again)
Anyway...I love these moments. The funny jokes and overall silliness shared over hot cereal or baked oatmeal and lots of scrambled eggs. My favorite thing though, is the the goodbyes.
I don't know why, but when my youngest first started talking, probably hearing me call T, honey, Emma started calling me things like muffin, peanut butter cookie, chocolate cupcake, or something along those lines. It has become a tradition now for them to bid me goodbye with the strangest terms of endearment you have ever heard, along with air kisses and burning-hot-lava-hugs (those are the best kind).
I love my kids. And even though I often forget to show that when I get grumpy or frustrated or stressed, it is true all the same.
Today I am thankful for their silly ways of saying that they love me back.
