November is for Thanks | Day 27

Today I am thankful for this motorcycle. It was not mine, it belonged to an older friend of mine. He let me borrow his Harley for my wedding day... a day that many of my friends and family will never forget. Although, they will not forget it because my wife and I got married that day, they will remember it because of this motorcycle.

You, we got married outdoors in a park. It was beautiful. We thought it would be great if I rode in during the ceremony on a motorcycle. I am not sure who's idea it was...but I liked it all the same. So, I borrowed the bike, we went through the rehearsals, and everything was perfect. We were ready for the big day and my big entrance.

When showtime came, I made my way into the park on the bike, but had failed to think through the grass being damp in certain areas as well as my slick dress shoes. Long story short...I crashed the motorcycle...during my wedding ceremony. At the time I didn't even think it was real - there was no way that could really be happening. But, alas, it did.

As mortified as I was that all this happened - and yes I was fine, the motorcycle was dented but fine too - looking back that crash was the coolest thing that could have happened. Now, forever etched in the minds of my friends and family is the day I crashed a motorcycle during my wedding. They will never forget that day, nor will they ever let me live it down. And I am ok with that. I am ok of always remembering and being reminded of one of the greatest days of my life...the day I married my best friend.

So, today, I am thankful for this motorcycle. May it ever live in infamy.
